Gombe National Park might be the smallest national park in Tanzania, it is definitely worth a visit. Because of the remote location it is not crowded at all. It can be quite an adventure to get there, but that's part of the fun, isn't it?
Gombe is located in the west of Tanzania, close to Kigoma, at the eastern shore of Lake Tanganyika. Jane Goodall, the famous primatologist, spent a lot of time here to research the behavior of the endangered chimpanzees.
It is the best place to see chimpanzees, baboons, velvet monkeys, and many tropical birds. Even without all these creatures, Gombe is a beautiful place with its forest and lake views. A guide will take you for a walk into the forest, and hopefully you will get a chance to sit with a family of chimpanzees to observe their behavior.
You can reach Gombe only by boat. You can hire a private boat or you can use a public 'taxi' boat.
Kigoma can be reached by plane or road. safari
